The pupils in this Department are called Pages, the name given to those who are in the first stage of knighthood. Here, pupils are taught the basic rudiments not only of reading, writing, and arithmetic but also of other areas, which include character formation. Our educational strength has been built through 375 years of academic excellence.

We see the elementary department with its organized structure and academic system as effective channels that facilitate the educative process that lead to the integral formation of the individual learners in the hallowed tradition of DEUS, PATRIA, LETRAN.

It adopts a Spiral Approach to learning, making sure that lessonsare continuously reinforced, the needs of the students are accommodated, and new skills are developed at various levels. At present, the Elementary Department enjoys the prestige of being a PAASCU Level 2 accredited school.

General Objective
The Elementary Department of Colegio de San Juan de Letran is expected to provide the child with a solid Catholic Dominican Foundation in basic education through a variety of learning experiences that are essential to his quality integral formation.

Specific Objectives
Specifically, a graduate of the Elementary Department of Colegio de San Juan de Letran shall become a person who:


  • Has been equipped with the knowledge of the basic Catholic doctrines.
  • Lives his life in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
  • A faithful child and devotee of the Blessed Mother Mary, the Rosary, St. Dominic and other Dominican saints.

Likewise, K + 12 graduates should be able to:

Admission Requirements

For Kinder (for Boys and Girls)

  • Must be at least four (4) years old by the opening of the school year;
  • Should pass the personal interview conducted by the screening committee;
  • Must submit a photocopy of his / her Birth Certificate

For Preparatory (for Boys and Girls)

  • Must be at least five (5) years old at the opening of the school year.
  • Should pass the personal interview and written examinations conducted by the screening committee
  • Must submit a photocopy of his / her Birth Certificate

By the opening of the school year, applicants must meet the following age requirements:

  • Grade I - 6 to 7 years old
  • Grade II - 7 to 8 years old
  • Grade III - 8 to 9 years old
  • Grade IV - 9 to 10 years old
  • Grade V - 10 to 11 years old
  • Grade VI - 11 to 12 years old
  • Grade VII - 12 to 13 years old
  • Grade VIII - 13 to 14 years old
  • Grade IX - 14 to 15 years old
  • Grade X - 15 to 16 years old

For Transferees

  • Should pass the oral and written tests in English and Mathematics administered by the Guidance Office
  • Satisfactory grades in conduct
  • Photocopy of Birth/ Baptismal Certificate
  • Form 138 or certificate of completion
  • Certificate of good moral character from the head of his/ her former school

For Foreign Students
Original and photocopy of their Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR)

For Students from Foreign Schools
Certificate of Eligibility from the DepEd.

For the Home Study Program (Grades IV-VI)

  • Most recent Form 138
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character from the parish priest of his / her community

Academic Scholarships

Only the top three recipients of the academic honors in each grade level from Prep to grade Six shall be given the academic scholarship.

First Honors - 100% discount on tuition fee
Second Honors - 75% discount on tuition fee
Third Honors - 50% discount on tuition fee

Rector’s Scholarship Program

A pupil applying in the Rector's Scholarship Program must:

  • belong to the top 20% of the graduating batch in the Pre-school as certified by the Principal or the Registrar
  • Pass the qualifying examinations given by the Colegio
  • Pass an interview to be administered by the respective academic heads
  • Be of good moral character as certified by the Principal or Guidance Counselor

Only the pupil-applicant with the highest number of points garnered in the screening process shall qualify for the program.

The recipient of the program will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Full discount on tuition, miscellaneous and various fees
  • Monthly allowance for ten (10) months
Retention Policy

Recipients of the Program shall maintain their scholarship status in every term. They should have a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 90 with no grade lower than 87, and must be an officer or active member of any recognized organization in the Colegio. He/She must also be an active participant in the Colegio's and / or Department's outreach programs; and must be involved in academic research and not subjected to any disciplinary action. 

  • Submit birth certificate, report card, 2 x 2 picture and certification of Good Moral
  • Character from previous school to the Admissions Office
  • Accomplish the Student’s Application Form in full.
  • Proceed to the principal’s office for the oral interview
  • Take the entrance examinations ( schedule and venue to be set by the Admissions Office)
  • The passing applicant will be asked to accomplish the reservation form. A reservation or processing fee of P 3,000 will be charged, deductible from the total fees upon enrollment. Failure to enroll will mean forfeiture of this fee.

Academic Awards

Quarterly Honors
Given to students whose general average in any quarter is at least 90 %. They must not have any grade below 85% during the quarter.

Non-Academic Awards

Effort Award

  1. Each section is entitled to one award in EFFORT.
  2. The pupil who obtains the highest final rating in Effort becomes the section’s candidate for this award provided the final rating is at least 88%.

Conduct Award

  1. Each section is entitled to one award in Conduct.
  2. The pupil who obtains the highest final rating in G.M.R.C. becomes the
  3. section's candidate for this award provided that the said final rating is at least 88%.

St. Martin de Porres Award (Christian Living)

  1. Each section is entitled to one award in Christian Living.
  2. The section's candidate for this award is the pupil who obtains the highest final rating in Christian Living in his class provided that the said final rating is at least 90%.
  3. He must not have been subjected to any disciplinary action during the school year.

Attendance Award

This award is given to any pupil who did incur any absence or tardiness during the school year in all curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities requiring his presence.

Sports Award

  1. Fulfills the minimum requirements prescribed in all his subjects.
  2. Is an official member of good standing of a team
  3. Has not been subjected to any disciplinary action regarding his participation in any sports activity or competition during the school year.

Arts Award

  1. Must have performed with distinction as an individual or a member of a group by copping any of the first three places in any school, district, regional, or national competition.
  2. Must have performed with distinction as an active member, performer, or director in any school-authorized drama, dance production or choral production as determined by the person-in-charge.

Service Award

Any student who obtains any of the following awards: Outstanding Boy Scout and Outstanding Knight of the Altar based on the criteria of each organization

  • Elementary and Junior High School students entrance and exit shall be at the BACK GATE.
  • Parents/ guardians with vehicles are not allowed to park inside the campus.
  • Designated waiting area is located at the St. John the Baptist Building before the turnstile.
  • Janitors will be assigned to help the pupils in Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 in bringing their bags in the classroom and to attend to their emergency needs.
  • Parents /guardians/ kasambahay are requested to wear decent attires. Wearing of slippers, shorts, sandos, mini-skirts and other skimpy outfit or revealing attire is prohibited.
  • Parents and guardians are advised to refrain from sending their children to school with expensive jewelry, gadgets and large amount of cash as the school will not be liable for any losses.
  • Feeding of elementary students may only be done during the allotted time (12:00-1:30 P.M) at the Student Center canteen only. Our facilities for meals are primarily intended for students. Everyone is also advised that the school maintains a “no styro” and “clean-as-you-go” (CLAYGO) policy. Parents/ guardians/ kasambahay need to log-in at the information center located at the main entrance.
  • All items left by students shall be endorsed to the EBG Office and will be declared lost and found items. Leaving food and perishable items at the security guard area is NOT permitted.
  • Parents/ guardians/ kasambahay are NOT allowed to fetch their children from their classroom during dismissal. They should wait at the pedestrian with shed next to the back gate.
  • No vendors are allowed inside the campus.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the campus and within 50 linear meters from the Colegio’s premises.
  • All visitors must state their purpose to the guard in-post at the entrance and must register at the information counter.
  • Firearms and any deadly weapon are strictly prohibited and are NOT allowed inside the campus. Prior to entry, all firearms and any form of deadly weapon should be surrendered to the security officer.
  • Visitors are NOT allowed to talk directly, scold or even verbally malign any student/learner. Likewise, it is strictly prohibited to make any physical contact or directly assault any student/learner whether the said student/learner is a relative or not.
  • Any damage in the school property incurred by your action, deliberate or not, shall be charged to the concerned person accordingly.
