Young cagers take the stage as the Beato Antonio Varona Ortega, OP Invitational Basketball League opens again this Saturday, February 25, at the Colegio gym.

However this time, the road to the title will be tougher.

Based on New York’s ‘Rumble in the Bronx’ battleground style, the Varona League will be held on four elimination dates (February 25 and 26 and March 4 and 5) with the teams having two games per day – a four-day double round elimination.

The Finals will be on March 11.

Games will have 16-minute halves, with the clock stopping on all whistles. Penalty is set on the 10th foul.

Top two teams after the eliminations will battle it out for the championship.

There will be two divisions with five teams each, namely: Ateneo de Manila University, Colegio de San Agustin, Manila Patriotic School, Letran A, and Letran B for the Mini Division; while Adamson University A, Adamson University B, Manila Patriotic School, Letran Manila, and Hoop Snipers Ball Club will make up the Midget Division.

The Mini Division is composed of five players born in 2002 while the rest are born in 2003 and below.

On the other hand, the Midgets Division allows two players born in 2000, with the rest born in 2001 and below.

Under the supervision of the Athletics Moderator, Fr. Victor Calvo, OP, Ariel de las Alas oversees the tournament as the director with Coach RJ Guevarra as the organizer.

The Varona League is sponsored by Glitz Mineral Water and Peaches Lontok.
