Andres Gonzales III, in his constant chase for excellence, has once more brought pride to the Colegio, winning a gold medal in the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) held at the National University of Singapore last July 14 to 17.

The young Letranite was ranked Top 1 in the individual Grade 9 category while achieving Overall Third in all categories.

SIMOC is a competition that tests its participants’ ability not only to solve problems with pen and paper but also their capability to work as a team and tackle mathematical games and puzzles. It consists of three events: Math Olympiad Contest (written individual), Maths Warriors Competition, and Mind Sports Challenge.

Gonzales was part of the Filipino delegation who raked in 12 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze medals, while adding six merit awards in the written individual competition. The team also got a gold medal, two silver, and two bronze in Math Warriors and a bronze medal in Mind Sports.

In addition to his triumph in SIMOC, Gonzales also scored a bronze medal in the XXIX Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad held early this year. He also was awarded first honor and was given a medal in the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing’s Hypatia Contest (for Grades 11 down).
